MIAMI (GaeaTimes.com)- A tropical storm has gathered strength along the Bahamas and is gradually proceeding toward the Gulf of Mexico, weather forecasters have revealed. According to the report released by the U.S. National Hurricane Center, the Tropical Storm Bonnie had maintained a wind capacity of 40 mph and on Thursday night it was focused at about 165 kilometers along the southeast direction of the capital city of Nassau in Bahamas while it was gradually moving towards the northwestern part of the country.

The officials of the Miami-based weather agency has further stated that the Tropical Storm Bonnie would shift towards Florida and then it is likely to proceed near the Gulf of Mexico where the oil giant BP is taking the necessary initiatives to cleanup the massive oil spill before it moves along the coast of Louisiana and Texas. The possibility that the Tropical Storm Bonnie is swirling towards the oil spill site in the Gulf of Mexico has raised concern as dozens of ships have been ordered to leave the site by the United States government in the wake of the storm. The U.S. National Hurricane Center has divulged that the tropical depression is expected to reach Gulf of Mexico around Saturday as it slowly gains speed in the next 48 hours.

Some experts have expressed concern that Tropical Storm Bonnie which is the second storm of the hurricane season might play an extremely detrimental role in the cleanup process which has been undertaken by the London-based oil company British Petroleum. It is being presumed that the heavy winds and large waves would further escalate the environmental damage from the spill by pushing the slick deeper into the wetlands and estuaries.
