Amtrak resuming limited NY-to-Boston service
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Amtrak is resuming limited passenger rail service between Boston and New York, but Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut are being left out of the loop.
Amtrak suspended service between the cities for two days this week because of flooding in Rhode Island.
Amtrak says three round trips will run between New York and Boston on Friday. The trains will not go through Providence, but will instead go through Hartford, Conn., and Springfield, Mass.
High-speed Acela Express service will be available only between New Haven, Conn. and New York.
Normally, an average of 20 Acela and 18 Northeast Regional trains run between Boston and New York each day.
Amtrak workers will continue to monitor the conditions in Rhode Island and re-evaluate the situation on Friday.
