Winter storm cuts power to thousands across East

CONCORD, N.H. — The winter storm plodding across the Northeast has left more than 800,000 homes and businesses without power.

High winds combined with heavy snow were helping bring down power lines early Friday. About 330,000 homes and business have lost power in New Hampshire alone. Even the state Emergency Operations Center in New Hampshire is operating on a generator.

Around 220,000 customers are in the dark in New York and 140,000 in Maine. Many also lack power in parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Vermont.
