Heavy storm cause flash flooding in Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY — Heavy rains are causing flash flooding across Oklahoma City, stranding motorists and prompting the closure of portions of several interstates and city streets.
Oklahoma City Police Lt. Gamille Hardin says from 2 to 6 inches of rain fell in just three hours, forcing the closure of parts of several interstates Monday morning.
Forecasters say an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain per hour will fall in some areas.
Hardin says there have been no reports of injuries, but police and fire officials have rescued several stranded motorists after their vehicles became trapped in rising floodwaters.
Lightning caused electricity outages in the area.
