Tornadoes damage 28 units at Fla. golf resort
LAKELAND, Fla. — Two tornadoes ripped through central Florida, damaging 28 units at a golf resort and leaving five of the condos uninhabitable.
The National Weather Service confirmed the tornadoes touched down at the Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort near Haines City, about 40 miles south of Orlando.
Polk county authorities were still tallying the damage from a severe storm that rumbled across the region, which also damaged mobile homes and toppled trees across an 80-mile swath. Hail measuring 3/4 of an inch in diameter fell along Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Heavy rain continued to fall Friday, and another line of Gulf of Mexico storms was expected to cross Florida before clearing up over the weekend.
