Storm sparks SoCal afternoon tornado warnings
LOS ANGELES — The National Weather Service has issued tornado warnings for parts of Los Angeles County and Orange County as a severe thunderstorm moves ashore. The warnings will continue until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. They cover South Central Los Angeles County, including Long Beach, and several Orange County cities such as Anaheim, Irvine and Santa Ana.
The weather service says radar shows a thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is moving northeast at 35 mph.
The weather service says if there is a whirlwind, anyone caught outside should seek shelter in a reinforced building or try to shelter in a culvert, ditch or a low spot.
