10 dead, 3 missing in floods in Romania
BUCHAREST, Romania — Authorities say ten people have died and three are missing after heavy rains and flooding in northeastern Romania.
Emergency situations spokeswoman Dorina Lupu from Botosani county says torrential rains on Monday night led to floods that killed six people, most from the town of Dorohoi. She says a 15-year-old boy is missing, and hundreds of people have been temporarily evacuated.
In the neighboring county of Suceava, authorities said Tuesday that four people died overnight in the flooding and two are missing.
Bridges and roads have been damaged, crops have been washed away and hundreds of houses are affected. Romania’s rail link to neighboring Ukraine has been shut down and dozens of villages have no electricity.
