Northern New England braces for possible flooding
GOFFSTOWN, N.H. — Northern New England is preparing for flooding as rains from a winter storm add up and help melt the snowpack over the frozen ground.
A flood warning is in effect for Goffstown, N.H., early Friday as a river there nears flood stage. No one has evacuated but officials are frequently checking the water level.
Floods ravaged parts of the town a few years ago.
Coastal flooding is expected in Maine as the storm’s high winds push the high tide into the mouths of swollen rivers.
The Presumpscot River in Westbrook, Maine, is expected to crest at 9 feet over flood stage by Friday afternoon.
Roads are flooded across Maine and New Hampshire.
