Winter storm impairs travel across windy Northeast
PHILADELPHIA — The winter storm plaguing the Northeast has disrupted air and road travel across the region as people try to get to work.
The three New York City airports are expecting heavy cancellations Friday and advising travelers to check with airlines before heading to the airport.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Ron Marsico says people used “good old common sense” on Thursday and stayed home, limiting the number stranded at airports.
Only one runway is open at Philadelphia International Airport and inbound flights are facing delays averaging more than three hours.
Other modes of travel are also a mess. New Jersey Transit has canceled buses to New York City. Rail service in New Jersey and Long Island is suspended or delayed.
