Wiring blamed in Ky. mobile home fire; 5 dead

SULPHUR WELL, Ky. — State police say a fire that killed five people in a rural Kentucky mobile home likely was started by an electrical malfunction.

Fourteen people were inside when the home caught fire before dawn Wednesday in the community of Sulphur Well, about 100 miles south of Louisville.

Four children ages 1 to 12 and a 24 year-old woman were killed, all related.

State police said in a statement Thursday that a final report on the blaze is pending. But for now, they believe the cause was a wiring malfunction. They said no foul play is suspected.

Eight others in the mobile home at the time were treated and released from hospitals. State Police Det. Andy Olson says one woman remained in critical condition in the burn unit at University of Louisville hospital.
