RANCHI - A senior Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) official was shot at by an unidentified men in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad city early Sunday, police said.

According to police, three men barged into chief general manager J.K. Bhaumik’s home, assaulted him, and then shot at him.

Bhaumik has been admitted to a Burnpur hospital in neighbouring West Bengal. Doctors attending to him said his condition is now out of danger.

“We are investigating the case from two angles. This could be a case of theft. As Bhaumik resisted the robbery attempt, he could have been shot at. Or it could be a pre-planned move to kill him,” a police official told IANS by telephone. Dhanbad is around 240 km from Ranchi.
