Swiss brakeman hurt in crash
WHISTLER, British Columbia — Swiss brakeman Juerg Egger has been injured in a bobsled crash.
Egger, the pushman for Switzerland-3 pilot Daniel Schmid, was hurt when their two-man sled overturned during a practice session Friday at the Whistler Sliding Center. Egger was strapped to a support board and taken away by ambulance.
There was not immediate word on his condition. The Swiss team doctor could not be reached for comment.
Earlier in the day, Swiss-1 driver Beat Hefti, a gold-medal favorite, withdrew from the two-man because of a concussion sustained in a crash on Wednesday.
There were three crashes in Friday’s first morning session, but all the racers who took their second runs made it down the track safely.
