GANDHINAGAR - A huge cache of explosive material and detonators has been seized in Gujarat’s Valsad district and three people have been arrested, police said Sunday.

A Special Operations Group of the Vapi police in Valsad, neighbouring Maharashtra seized 200 kg of Ammonium Nitrate, 600 detonators and 200 gelatine sticks from an autorickshaw that was heading towards the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Saturday night, a police official said.

Three people in a car accompanying the autorickshaw have been arrested, he added.

Shivanand Jha, additional director general of police in charge of south Gujarat, Sunday ruled out any terror angle to the seizure.

The seized material had been procured from a licensed dealer but was being ferried illegally to the union territory for quarrying purposes. One of those arrested is a quarry owner.

The material was being transported from Vapi to Silvassa, the headquarters of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Police said further investigations were under way.
