GHAZIABAD - Four B. Tech students of a private engineering college in Ghaziabad were booked for causing death of a fellow student by negligence in Masuri area, police said Tuesday.

According to Masuri station officer Pramod Kumar, a case was registered Monday evening under section 304A, causing death by negligence, against four students of Shri Ganpati Institute of Technology - Abdul Rizvi, Pawan Chaudhary, Aditya and Mukul - for the death of a fellow student Akshay Gaur Nov 18.

Akshay Gaur, a resident of Vasundhara, had left home for college at 8 a.m. Nov 18. He then joined four of his college mates, and the five started for college together.

The five did not go to college and instead took a bus to Masuri. From there, they hired an auto and reached the Upper Ganga Canal bridge at about 2 p.m. They had drinks near the canal, took off their clothes and started bathing in the water, Pramod Kumar said.

Amidst this, Akshay reached the middle edge of the bridge over the flowing water and told his friends that he was jumping into the centre part of canal to have more fun, he said.

His friends objected to this and told him that the canal was very deep in the centre. However, Akshay did not listen and jumped. As the water flow was very swift, Akshay lost control and was carried along with the water. His body could not be traced till Tuesday evening.

We have registered a case against the four students on the complaint of the boys father, Trilok Gaur, who claimed that they were behind his son’s death, Superintendent of Police, Rural, Capt. M.M. Begh said.

The four accused are second and third year students.

A video clipping recorded by one of the students during their fun shows Akshay jumping from the top of bridge and other students objecting to it, police said.

Akshay Gaur had earlier been involved in a case of kidnapping a girl in December 2009.
