MIAMI — The National Hurricane Center says tropical storm Matthew has formed in the southwestern Caribbean.
Forecasters at the Miami center said at 5 p.m. EDT Thursday that Matthew has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving westward at 16 mph. The center says Matthew was located 435 miles east of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua.
A hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning have been issued for parts of Nicaragua and Honduras.
