Tropical depression heads for Nicaragua, Honduras
MIAMI — A tropical storm warning and hurricane watch are issued for parts of Nicaragua and Honduras ahead of a tropical depression that could strengthen over the Caribbean.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the governments of Nicaragua and Honduras issued the alerts for the stretch from Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua, to Limon, Honduras, including offshore islands.
The center of the tropical depression was about 485 miles (775 kilometers) east of Puerto Cabezas and moving west near 15 mph (24 kph).
It could strengthen into a tropical storm later Thursday or early Friday. The center is expected to be near the border of Nicaragua and Honduras late Friday or early Saturday.
