Enbridge says Ill. oil pipeline spill contained
HOUSTON — Enbridge Energy says workers have contained oil that spilled from a leaky pipeline in a Chicago suburb.
Enbridge Energy Partners LP said Friday it doesn’t know yet what caused the leak or how much oil spilled.
It says the pipeline was shut down within minutes after the leak occurred Thursday, spilling oil onto a roadway and into a retention pond in Romeoville, Ill.
Enbridge Energy Partners says crews are focusing on cleaning up the oil and excavating the pipeline to determine how the leak occurred.
There’s no estimate on when the pipeline will be restarted but the company says it’s working to divert oil to other pipelines and storage facilities.
