Hurricane Earl Picks Up Power

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (GaeaTimes.com)- Although Hurricane Danielle has weakened along the northern region of Atlantic Ocean on Monday, it seems unlikely that the 2010 Hurricane season would shy away from the limelight as the new Hurricane Earl is threatening to wreak a havoc along the Caribbean islands. Hurricane Earl continues to pick up force triggering warnings in a number of islands in Caribbean as the winds gradually attain power while heavy rains have lashed northern Leeward Islands.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Earl is showing signs of transforming into a major hurricane on late Monday night pr early Tuesday after it was upgraded to Category 2 on Sunday morning. In the wake of Hurricane Earl, the islands where warnings have already been issued in Antigua, Saint Barthelemy, the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Barbuda, St Eustatius, Montserrat, Saint Martin, Saba, Nevis as well as the US Virgin Islands. In Antigua, the international airport has been shut down while a number of flights have also been canceled as the island nation has been witnessing heavy rains since Sunday. In order to prevent the situation from escalating into a major crisis, residents in the islands along the northern territories of Caribbean have stocked up food, water as well as other essential supplies.
The National Hurricane Center has stated that Puerto Rico, the Leewards Islands and the Virgin Islands is expected to get about eight to twelve inches of rain which might trigger devastating flash floods and mudslides in the region. At the same time, Hurricane Earl could also effect parts of United States later, the center has added.
