Weather service: 7 tornadoes may have hit ND, Minn

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The National Weather Service says as many as seven tornadoes may have touched down in southeast North Dakota and western Minnesota.

Weather service meteorologist Greg Gust in Grand Forks, N.D., said preliminary data shows there were at least four tornadoes in the area Saturday evening. Crews also looked at tornado damage in Grant and Douglas counties in Minnesota.

Gust said a twister near Tyler, N.D., was on the ground for about five miles and had wind speeds greater than an EF3, which range from 136 to 165 mph. It destroyed seven farms buildings, tossed a pickup and uprooted a beet crop.

No injuries were reported in any of the tornadoes.
