Train Accident In West Bengal: Railways Open Helplines

KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Following the horrific train accident in West Bengal which is presumed to have killed as many as 60 passengers while leaving many injured, the railway authorities have opened several helpline for the relatives of the passengers, many of whom are still missing. The Eastern Railway has opened two helplines at Sealdah to aid the families of the victims so that they can gather information about their kin without much hassles.

Since the news of the train accident in West Bengal was aired on the various television channels, anxious relatives of the passengers traveling by the Vananchal Express and the Uttar Banga Express have been thronging the railway stations to know the fate of their near and dear ones. Ghostho Behari Kundu was one among the large number of relatives of the victims who has been trying to gather information about his son and grand-son who were aboard the Vananchal Express when the tragic incident took place. 60-year-old Prashanta Mahapatra had a similar story to tell as he was frantically searching for his son who had boarded the train from Asansol and was missing since the tragedy.

With the aim of the aiding of helping the relatives of the victims of the train accident in West Bengal, the railway authority have made helpline numbers available from Howrah station, Bhagalpur station as well as Jamal station. The fateful accident took place on early Monday morning when the speeding Uttarbanga Express collided with the Vananchal Express. The impact of the collision was so intense that three compartments of the Vananchal Express were completely mangled.
