MIAMI — A new tropical depression has formed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico, and forecasters say it could strengthen into a tropical storm later in the day.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Saturday morning that the depression is about 345 miles (550 kilometers) southeast of Acapulco, Mexico. Winds are reaching about 35 mph (55 kilometers per hour).
The depression is moving to the west-southwest at about 6 mph (9 kilometers per hour). Forecasters say it is likely to get stronger in the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Blas was still swirling 365 miles (585 kilometers) west-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. Its winds were at about 50 mph (85 kilometers per hour), but forecasters say it will likely get weaker starting tonight.
