Recent Earthquakes In Southern California

BORREGO SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Parts of southern California, especially the Borrego Springs community was hit by two successive earthquakes on Saturday night. As per the latest reports, the magnitude of the tremors has been put at 4.9 for the first earthquake which was soon followed by a tremor measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale.

Seismologists of the U.S. Geological Survey have further divulged that the epicenter of the first earthquake was 9 miles away from Borrego Springs community at a depth of about 3.6 miles. Around 24 seconds later, parts of southern California was again struck by another tremor which was felt was centered at a distance of about a mile from the region where the first tremor was triggered. It has also been reported that the tremors were also experienced along parts of Orange County as well as far as north of Anaheim. At the same time, although the epicenter of the first earthquake was found to be at a distance of 56 miles from San Diego, people in the city have revealed that they were able to feel the tremors. The other parts of Southern California where the two recent earthquakes were felt include Lake Forest, Costa Mesa, La Habra, Dana Point, among others.

While divulging details about the two recent earthquakes in southern California, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has added that the tremors were ‘quick jolt’ while also stating that any calls of damage caused due to the tremors has not been reported till now. However, it has come to light that the two earthquakes were followed up by minor aftershocks which continued for a short period of time.
