BP says it will pay for Gulf oil spill clean-up

LONDON — BP says it will pay “all necessary and appropriate clean-up costs” resulting from the blown-out oil well that has caused a massive slick that continues to swell in the Gulf of Mexico.

In a fact sheet posted to the company’s website on Monday, BP said it took responsibility for the response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and says, “we will clean it up.”

The document says “BP will pay all necessary and appropriate clean-up costs.”

The company says it will pay compensation for “legitimate and objectively verifiable” claims for property damage, personal injury, and commercial losses.

Federal officials shut down fishing from the Mississippi River to the Florida Panhandle on Sunday. The environmental disaster is still expected to take at least a week to cut off.
