San Diego Earthquake April 4, 2010

San Diego (GaeaTimes.com) San Diego was hit by an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude though it was initially reported to be of 6.9 magnitude. The trembling started with a little rumbling and shaking and it became heavier later. The peak rumble stayed for about 40 seconds in the Southwestern part of the United States and Northwestern Mexico. There are no initial reports of loss of life or any serious damage and only some minor structural damages were reported. Some windows and pipes were broken in San Diego area and reportedly Mexico area felt a little more damage. Some areas in Mexico were without power tonight due to the damage caused. It was felt in downtown Los Angeles. There are also some reports that tremors were felt as far away as Phoenix, Arizona. Allegedly, there is no Tsunami warning issued till now.
According to the Center U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was located near Baja California, Mexico. It is approximately 175 miles southeast of Tijuana. Some other reports say that the quake occurred at Mexicali, Mexico. Allegedly the source was 16 miles south southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, at a depth of 20 miles. It was 108 miles east southeast of Tijuana. The quake occurred at 15:40 Pacific Time and 6:40 EDT.
In San Diego area, people near the harbor claimed that they saw boats moving violently back and forth at the time of the earthquake. There are also reports that the big tremble was also followed by smaller quakes. Some people reported that they felt seasick from the motion.
