MEXICO CITY - More than 70,000 people in quake-hit Haiti capital Port-au-Prince and nearby cities will be shown free movies on survival strategies, a media report said Saturday.

Under a programme launched in 2005 which aims at sharing cinematic experience with communities devastated by poverty or natural disasters, the Mexican government will show 11 films free of charge in Haiti, Xinhua news agency said quoting a statement from the country’s foreign ministry.

“The free movies aim to offer Haitians light-hearted entertainment to help ease the sorrow caused by the Jan 12 quake,” the statement said.

The films include short ones dealing with survival, unity and citizen participation. There will also be films made by quake survivors.
