Three held with 1 kg opium in Jharkhand

RANCHI - Three people were arrested in Jharkhand’s Chatra district with 1 kg of opium worth Rs.20 lakh, police said Friday.

“Three people were arrested with 1 kg of opium in Chatra district on Friday,” a police official said.

In Jharkhand, opium is cultivated in a large scale in Maoist-controlled areas. According to police, the Maoists encourage farmers to grow opium to fund their activities.
