Earthquake in Chennai and Andaman Update

CHENNAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — A major earthquake is reported to hit the island of Andaman and Nicobar and also some part of Chennai around 10.24 pm, Tuesday. The quake was measured 6.4 in Richter scale and its estimated epicenter was situated at 217 kilometers (135 miles) north of Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman islands.
There has been no loss of life or property. Only two people are injured as they jumped from a roof, awestruck by the tremor.
A mild quake was also felt in Orissa. Major cities like Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur were shaken by the tremor. Many people came out of their houses and spend time in open air.
Meanwhile, just after the earthquake no tsunami alert was given. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said to government agencies that the quake posed no “destructive widespread tsunami” threat.
