Amtrak suspends some trains in flooded Northeast
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Amtrak has suspended many trains on its busy Northeast lines because of flooding in the region.
Amtrak said Wednesday that water on the tracks near Providence, R.I., forced it to stop Acela Express trips between New Haven, Conn., and Boston. It also suspended its regular Northeast Regional service between New York and Boston.
The high waters come after three days of record-breaking rain in several states from Connecticut to Maine. Rhode Island has borne the brunt of the storm.
Flooding has washed out bridges and covered roads. A main connector to T.F. Green International Airport in Providence has closed.
