Fire in Chandigarh public hospital, patients safe

CHANDIGARH - Patients of a government multi-specialty hospital here had a miraculous escape Friday morning after a fire broke out in the trauma centre. There were no casualties, the hospital authorities said.

The trauma centre and the adjoining emergency operation theatres at the hospital in Sector 16 suffered damage due to the fire.

Four fire tenders were rushed. The blaze was controlled and all the patients were safe.

A doctors at the hospital told IANS that there were over 12 patients in the trauma centre when the fire broke out. All the patients were taken out before the fire could spread, he added.

Authorities said short-circuiting in the air-conditioning system of the hospital was suspected to be the cause of the fire.
