BANGALORE - A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in a three-storeyed building, serving as a godown of the defence canteen stores, near Trinity Circle in Bangalore’s central business district. There was no casualty, police and fire service officials said.

Around 20 fire tenders were deployed to douse the fire which was noticed around 4 p.m. on the second and third floors of the building in the busy area, the officials said.

Exactly a month back, on Feb 23, a blaze at Carlton Towers, about five km away from Trinity Circle, had claimed nine lives. Six of the victims died when they jumped from the building and three died from asphyxiation.

The survivors and families of the nine victims of the Carlton Towers fire Tuesday held an inter-faith memorial service at the building, an office and commercial complex, on old Airport Road.

They decided to observe Feb 23 each year as Fire Safety Day.
