GHAZIABAD - Police searching for a missing self-styled godman and a woman devotee he is accused of kidnapping have recovered photographs of the two as a married couple.

Photographs depicting the godman Anoop Kumar Sahai alias Swamiji, 40, being married to the woman, Priyanka Srivastava, 27, were found from his red beaconlight-fitted car seized from Greater Noida late Wednesday night.

Superintendent of Police (City) A.K. Vijeta said: “The photos of their marriage were found inside the car. It is yet to be verified. Nothing can be said at this stage. He is still untraceable. Raids are being carried out at different places to arrest him.”

Even as police claimed that the girl had gone with the swami with her consent, her family members denied it.

“Priyanka used to call him elder brother and even interacted with him very little. She used to remain inside home whenever he visited us,” her mother, Sudha Srivastava, said.

“Anoop was a very clever man and was being guided by his elder brother Ashutosh. These are morphed photos and this is being done to calm the media and prevent any police action,” she alleged.
