GANDHINAGAR - The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 2002 Gujarat communal riots has summoned Chief Minister Narendra Modi for questioning on March 21.

According to SIT chief R.K. Raghavan, the move to question Modi follows an order by the Supreme Court on April 27, 2009, on a petition of Zakia Jaffri and advocate-activist Teesta Setalvad pertaining to a wider conspiracy surrounding the 2002 communal riots.

The petition had named Narendra Modi and was referred by the Supreme Court bench to the SIT with directions to look into it.
