RAIPUR - Eight policemen, including the head of a police station, have been suspended on charges of terrorising people in a small town in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, police said Thursday.

The suspension order was issued late Wednesday against Kirandul police station in-charge Kamlesh Thakur and seven junior colleagues after it was confirmed that they had beaten up dozens of people at Kirandul, some 410 km south of Raipur, Tuesday.

The policemen also opened several rounds of fire in the air to terrorise people at a crowded market.

Hundreds of people Wednesday denounced the “police terror” and sought the suspension of the policemen.
