JAMMU - The four men named for causing the death of an 11-day-old infant during a stone pelting incident in Baramullah in north Kashmir last week have been arrested, a state minister said Monday.

Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar Monday told the state legislative assembly that a murder case has been registered against the four.

Sagar identified the four as Tanvir Ahmad, Bilal Ahmad Channa, Akhtar Hussain Bhat, and Mohammad Ramzan.

The baby’s death occurred during an incident of stone throwing Feb 22, when his parents were taking him for medical check-up to a hospital. Tanvir and the others intercepted their van and dragged out Kulsooma, mother of infant Irfan, as a result of which the baby slipped out from her arms and died on the spot.

The minister said the accused were identified after sustained investigation and recording of eyewitness accounts of 15 people.
