Multiple crashes close Pa. Turnpike amid storm

CARLISLE, Pa. — Multiple crashes have closed a 60-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike as a winter storm blows through the region.

It’s not clear whether anyone was injured in the crashes early Friday in the hills of central Pennsylvania.

Turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo says the crash involves multiple vehicles in the westbound lanes. He says eastbound lanes are closed to allow rescue workers through.

Snow and high winds have disrupted travel throughout the region.

Cancellations and delays are plaguing airports in the New York City area and Philadelphia. Roads are snow-clogged or flooded from Maine southward.

New Jersey Transit has canceled buses to New York City. Rail service in New Jersey and Long Island is suspended or delayed.
