Mexican army detonates small bomb found with note

OAXACA, Mexico — Police in the southern Mexico state of Oaxaca have found a small bomb left in a vacant lot with a note mentioning a possible explosion at a local school.

State police say army specialists conducted a controlled detonation of the device, with no injuries.

A note mentioning a high school was with the bomb and contained the phrase “one hour, boom.” Authorities searched the school Friday but found nothing.

An anonymous phone call led police to the bomb. The army says it apparently contained nitroglycerine connected to a cell phone.

Incidents of violence involving schools in Mexico are rare.
