KATHMANDU - A 14-year-old boy from India’s eastern Bihar state has been arrested in Nepal for allegedly trying to rape a three-year-old girl, police said Monday.

The adoloscent was arrested in Aapgachhi village in eastern Nepal’s Morang district Sunday after neighbours told police they found him trying to rape the child and rescued her, police said.

The Shahs are residents of Araria village in Bihar.

Police said they were investigating the allegations by neighbours.

Though Nepal’s Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has pledged to observe 2010 as the year to end violence against women, rapes and murder of women are on the rise.

Alarmingly, there is also a rise in the number of cases of child rape as well as crimes, including murder, committed by teenagers.
