RANCHI - A special Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) court Thursday convicted nine people in a fodder scam case and sentenced one person to two-and-half years’ imprisonment.

Special CBI Judge B. Jha pronounced the judgment in the case related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.5.37 million from Hazaribagh district government treasury in early 1990s.

The case had 14 accused, and five died during trial.

One person, Anil Kumar, was sentenced to two-and-half years in jail while the quantum of punishment for eight others would be announced Friday.

Kumar was also fined Rs.40,000.

The multi-million fodder scam was exposed in 1996. Sixty-one cases were transferred to Jharkhand after the state was carved out of Bihar in November 2000.

The special CBI courts have passed judgment in 32 cases.

Former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Yadav and Jagannath Mishra are accused in five cases.
