RANCHI - The Jharkhand police will constitute an anti-extortion cell in the state to deal with the rising number of extortion cases in the state.

The decision was taken Tuesday at a high-level meeting of police officials, which was attended by Jharkhand police chief Neyaz Ahmad, district police chiefs and other senior police officials.

“The meeting decided to set up an anti-extortion cell in the police headquarters. The special cell will investigate extortion cases in the entire state. The cell will also keep a tab on the criminals involved in extortion,” V.H. Deshmukh, Jharkhand police spokesperson, told IANS.

“The meeting also stressed the need for police sanitization and speedy trial of important cases. It also reiterated safety norms in Maoist-infested areas,” he said.

The police chief expressed unhappiness over the rising crime graph in the state and asked the district police to take the issue seriously.

In recent times, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and other cities have witnessed rise in the crime graph.
