KURUKSHETRA - Haryana police Tuesday said they had busted a gang of highway robbers with the arrest of six people.

Police laid a trap following a tip-off from its source and arrested the six. Two stolen cars were also recovered from their possession.

“They were operating during late hours on the National Highway between Ambala and Panipat. They used to offer lift to passengers waiting for State Roadways buses. One of them drove the vehicle, while others posed as other passengers,” district police chief K.V. Ramana told reporters.

He said then they took the vehicle to a secluded place and snatched away all the money, jewellery, credit cards and other valuables from the victims before throwing them out. “There were also some cases where they had offered intoxicants to the passengers before robbing them,” Ramana added.

Police officials said that they are expecting to solve over 30 cases of highway robberies with these arrest.
