Man held with fake notes

BAHRAICH - A man involved in supplying of counterfeit currency to various states of the country, was arrested here Saturday with fake notes worth over Rs.1 lakh, police said.
Ishtiaq Ansari, around 28, was arrested from Risia town in a joint operation by the special operation group (SOG) and the district police.
Ishtiaq was arrested while he was on his way to hand over the illegal consignment of fake notes to his clients,” Additional Superintendent of Police Ram Swaroop told reporters in Bahraich, some 140 km from Lucknow.
The fake currency notes seized from Ishtiaq are manufactured from high quality paper and ink. Taking it into account, we cannot rule out his involvement with an international racket,” he added.
According to police, preliminary investigations indicate Ansari used to supply the fake notes in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and some other states.
We are yet to ascertain where from Ansari received the consignment of fake notes. Investigations are on in this regard,” said Swaroop.
