GHAZIABAD - Around 150 students from different schools stepped into the shoes of traffic policemen for a day here as part of an awareness programme.

“These school children challaned 450 people, recovered three weapons and collected fines amounting to Rs.87,000 from Old Bus Stand and Chaudhary More intersections,” traffic inspector Pawan Kumat told IANS Monday.

Students from KDB Public School, Ingraham Higher Secondary School and Dehradun Public School were posted for two hours, along with traffic cops.

The kids looked enthusiastic about their new role.

“Now, we know how much pain traffic police officers have to undergo every day,” an eleventh standard student Mayank Goel said.

Superintendent of police (traffic and crime) Jai Prakash said: “I am happy to see the participation of so many school children and hope that they turn into responsible citizens.”
