RANCHI - A 20 kg landmine was recovered Thursday from Jharkhand’s Giridih district ahead of the fifth and final phase of panchayat polls, police said.

According to police, the landmine was planted beneath a road surface in Kunjiya village of Giridih district, around 190 km from Ranchi. The bomb disposal squad defused the landmine.

Giridih is one of the seven districts where fifth and final phase of panchayat poll will take place. Police suspect the landmine was planted to blow up the passing police vehicle during the polls.
