Elephant kills three of a family in Bangladesh

DHAKA - A wild elephant crushed a woman and her two children to death in Bangladesh’s southern Bandarban district, police said.

Qamrul Islam, a senior police officer, said the bodies were recovered and sent to hospital for autopsy, according to the Daily Star Thursday.

Locals said the elephant entered the house of one Abul Kashem at Natun Chakpara village at about 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and trampled his wife and two children to death, Prothom Alo reported.

The deceased were identified as Sajeda Begum, 42, and her two children Kohinur Akter, 10, and Rozina Akter, 6. Kashem and his elder son, however, managed to escape the attack. The elephant was chased away by the villagers.
