Three students die in bus accident

LUCKNOW - Three students were killed and 30 injured when their school bus skidded off the road and fell into a pit in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district Monday, police said.

The accident took place in Ayana area when the bus was ferrying about 35 students of the Bal Vikas Vidya Mandir (BVVM) school, Superintendent of Police Abdul Hameed told IANS from Auraiya, some 150 km from here.

Deputy Superintendent of Police R.K. Sonkar added: Preliminary investigations reveal the driver lost control of the bus while trying to save a cyclist who suddenly came in the way.”

While two students died on the spot, another died on his way to hospital. All the injured are being treated at the district hospital where the condition of a few students is stated to be serious,” he said.

According to police, those killed or injured are in the age group of 8-14 years.

The driver of the bus, who should have rescued the students, ran away from the spot. He is absconding. Efforts are on to nab him,” said Sonkar.
