RANCHI - Suspected Maoists in a Jharkhand village Monday shot and injured a ration dealer who had donated land for a police picket, a police official said.

Chedi Singh a ration dealer of Chatti village, around 75 km from here, was taken to a hospital in a critical condition. He is recuperating, the police official said.

Singh, according to police, was on the hit list of Maoist guerrillas after he gave a piece of land in his village for a police picket.

In another incident, rebels torched five dumpers in Bhaibasan bauxite area of Gumla district. Denial of extortion money to the rebels is said to be the reason behind the arson.
