KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The recent derailment of Metro in Kolkata has made sensation among the public and media. In its history Kolkata Metro has faced several kind of snags and technical glitches which have affected the service but derailment of metro is totally unprecedented. That explains why a 4 member team from Indian railway has begun a probe on the issue. The coaches of a metro rail heading to Kavi Najrul station derailed on Oct 20th which made the train stranded before central station. Needless to say, the incident caused enough panic and fear among the passengers in the trains who had to spend several minutes amidst total darkness and suspense.

The team of Indian railway reached North 24 Pargana’s Noapara to inspect the damaged metro coaches. They were accompanied by the officials of Kolkata Metro Rail. Since the metro tracks that got damaged are under repair now the team did not go there. However, they may visit that spot later. The coaches that got derailed made at least 2800 passengers stranded for some minutes. The coach was non AC and the light went pout after the derailment. It is sheer luck for the passengers as the train was moving at a much slower speed than the permissible speed limit. If the speed was higher a major tragedy could have happened.

The committee of Indian railway was informed that the incident damaged almost 100 meters track. The incident has caused mass outrage at the Metro Rail authority for shoddy maintenance. The possibility of any sabotage cannot be ruled out. Union railway Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee earlier hinted of such a possibility behind the disaster.
