SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (GaeaTimes.com)- A surfer lost his life on Tuesday due to severe injuries that he sustained after being attacked by a shark in the waters off West Australia. 31-year-old Nicholas Edwards went surfing on the west Australian beach in Gracetown near the popular tourist destination of Margaret River on Tuesday morning when he was viciously attacked by the shark. Despite the unrelenting efforts of the fellow-surfers to rescue the man after dragging him ashore, Nicholas Edwards was declared dead after he was taken to a nearby medical facility.

While divulging the details of the horrifying incident, a spokesperson of the Western Australia police department stated that the man passed away at the Margaret River hospital as he had received life-threatening injuries owing to the shark attack. Eye-witnesses have revealed that after the man cried for help following the shark attack, a number of surfers present at the beach immediately rushed to his rescue and were later able to bring him ashore. However, by that time, Nicholas Edwards had already received major injuries and one of the eye-witnesses divulged that one of his legs were completely shredded.

Following the incident, the beach has been shut down by the authorities but a police patrol boat has not found much success in finding the killer shark which was responsible for carrying out the brutal attack. The shark attack on Nicholas Edwards is the first fatal incident since the end of December 2008 when a 51-year-old man also lost his life in the same beach which is a popular surfing location and is known for the notorious sharks that it harbors.
