First lady to make 2nd Gulf trip following spill
WASHINGTON — First lady Michelle Obama is returning to the Gulf region next week to meet with Coast Guard personnel in Mississippi who have been responding to the massive oil spill.
Mrs. Obama will also christen a Coast Guard cutter named in honor of Dorothy C. Stratton, the Coast Guard’s first female commissioned officer.
The first lady made her first oil spill trip to the region earlier this month when she visited Panama City, Fla., and met with business and tourism officials. President Barack Obama says he plans to return to the region as well in the coming weeks.
(This version CORRECTS that Mrs. Obama’s first Gulf visit was to Panama City, Fla., not Pensacola.)
