La. parish head: Replace adm. in charge of spill

BELLE CHASE, La. — The leader of a Louisiana parish that has been one of the hardest hit by the oil disaster in the Gulf says the admiral in charge of the response needs to be replaced.

Plaquemines (PLAK-uh-menz) Parish President Billy Nungesser (NUN-ges-er) told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen has failed at almost every step in dealing with the catastrophic leak and is “not the right man for the job.”

He says he’s impressed with President Barack Obama’s leadership. But he says if the president doesn’t make drastic changes, it’s going to give him an undeserved bad rap.

A message left with unified command, the joint response of the Coast Guard and BP, did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
